When the alcohol, which is in a vapor form, hits the cold water it will turn some of the alcohol back into a liquid and it will drop back into the boiler to be reheated and will rise again. The reflux column is attached to the boiler by flange and collar which can be removed. Temperature is controlled by your heat source under your boiler.
