Ethanol Stills
| NOTE: It is illegal to
distill alcohol without first obtaining a Federal permit through the
Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB). Failure to obtain a
Federal permit prior to engaging in this activity is a criminal offence
under the Internal Revenue Code. To use our stills as ethanol producing
devices, you must first get a permit from the TTB. Click on the links
below to download the form or visit
their web site.
Permit
If you'd like to apply for an Experimental Fuel Distillers Permit,
download Application Form
5110.74 (Application and Permit For An Alcohol Fuel Producer Under 26
U.S.C. 5181) in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format from the Alcohol
and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) web site. Other related
application forms are also available from
this
page. Please be patient, sometimes it takes a bit longer than you
expect for the form to display. If the link on the TTB site is broken,
you can also request a hard copy by calling TTB at

3" Turbo Tower
Serious about your ethanol
production? Look no further. The BEST ethanol tower on the
market is available now!
Made of stainless steel. 3" diameter, 80" tall
tower. Improved design over many existing ethanol towers.
Comes with:
- Sterlco 56-T Valve
- Heavy Duty Dial Thermometer with Celsius
and Fahrenheiht
- 3/8" Raschig Rings (Column Packing)
- Gasket with stainless steel screen
- Clamps
This tower comes apart in two places for easy
cleaning and storage. You can also use the tower right on the
boiler, or even just use the very top piece as a pot still.
Amended Test Results
-
Using a 25 gallon
boiler, you are looking at approximately 2 gallons per hour
at 80%-85%
-
Alcohol percentages
are raised when you run at a lower rate
-
The larger the
boiler, the more volume will enter the column, increasing
your output.
This Turbo Tower will out-produce any similar
tower on the market. I guarantee it.
Don't be fooled by company saying "5 or 6
gallons an hour". Sure, they can produce that much but at a very
low ethanol %. |

Ethanol Tower -
'The Beast'
'The Beast'
is available now!
Made of stainless steel (matte finish). 4"
diameter, 50" tall tower.
Comes with:
- Packing (1/2" ceramic saddles)
- Hoses
- Clamps
- Gasket with stainless steel screen
- Heavy Duty Dial Thermometer
Test Result from August 8,
2006
- Starting with 36 gallons at 14%
- Heat-up time, using a 55-gallon drum with
a
210,000BTU outdoor propane stove, 2 hours and 5 minutes.
- 2.1 gallons per hour at 86%. I believe a
higher percentage can be reached, if slowed down to the pace
of 1.5 gallon per hour.
Other companies say they can get 3 to 6
gallons per hour at 95%. Make sure to do your homework. Because
I think these companies are stretching the truth a little bit. |

Sterlco® 56-T
|
| |

140°F to
240°F; made in the USA
STERLCO® 56-T Temprerature Actuated Valve.
Both of the large fuel stills (the FFS and the Charles 803)
require the use of an automatic valve in order to regulate the
internal reflux temperature of the still. For years the plans
have called for a Johnson control valve, V47AA-aC, 2C or
V47AB-3C or 4C. However, today, we have another option with the
Sterlco type 56T. The Sterlco Type 56T 140-240 is the same thing
as a V47AB-4C, however, it is more sensitive to temperature
change and will maintain the internal temperature more
consistently than the Johnson valve, making it more suitable for
column still use.
This thermostatic cooling control valve has everything you need
for reliable temperature control. The Sterlco® 56-T Temperature
Actuated Water Regulating Valve evenly regulates cooling water
and other fluids in the most rugged applications. It’s ideal for
hydraulic power packaged equipment, hydraulic presses or
wherever reliable performance is required. The 56-T Valve is
available in six different temperature ranges. To ensure
dependability, every valve is factory-tested three times in
different temperature baths. For the temperature control you
need, get the valve that can deliver. |
